Suspected bandit shot during confrontation with police

A suspected bandit was shot and wounded after a confrontation with police.

The incident occurred when the officers responded to a robbery in Arima on Friday morning.

Police said officers of the Traffic and Highway Patrol received a report of a robbery on Guanapo Street and went to the scene.

On reaching the area police saw a man running with a gun towards them.

The officers called on the man to stop and drop the gun but he instead pointed the gun at the officers.

Police shot the man and took him to the Arima General Hospital where he was treated and transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he remained under police guard up to Friday evening.

The suspect was identified as a 33-year-old Arima man.

One pistol and five rounds of ammunition were found and seized.
