Alleged incident involving TTCG ad Grenadian vessel currently being investigated

The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard says it is investigating a recent incident involving a Grenadian vessel and a Coast Guard interceptor on March 2nd.

According to media reports from Grenada, the vessel was stopped by the TTCG and its crew treated in a hostile manner, with one officer using obscene language.
The report added that one crew member was also beaten so badly that he had to be hospitalized.

However, in a statement Saturday, the TTCG says the “The report alleged conduct on the part of Coast Guard personnel that would not be in keeping with the service-oriented ethos that the Coast Guard expects from its members and which it has displayed over the years.”

It says an investigation was launched on the same morning of the incident, with a view to determining the facts of what occurred.

It adds that the probe will involve all parties concerned by the time of its completion and assured that efforts are being made to ensure that this matter is speedily resolved.
