Spain beats Sweden to earn first appearence in Women’s World Cup Final

Spain beat Sweden to book their maiden appearance in the final of a Women’s World Cup.

19 year old substitute Salma Paralluelo gave Spain the lead when the former sprinter and FC Barcelona player reacted quickest from a poor clearance to put La Roja ahead with just 10 minutes remaining.

Sweden – who have now lost back-to-back World Cup semi-finals – equalised through Rebecka Blomqvist in the 88th minute.

But with the game poised to go to extra time, Spain’s captain Olga Carmona scored an 89th-minute winner to spark wild celebrations among supporters at Eden Park, Auckland.

They will face England or Australia in the final in Sydney on Sunday.
