Social Development Ministry Stands Ready To Assist Morris Family Following Fire

Various forms of support will be given to the Morris family whose home at Quinam Road; Siparia was destroyed by fire on Sunday.

This hs been confirmed by the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services.

The Ministry was informed the family is staying with a close relative and as such, efforts will be made to provide any amenities required to bring comfort at this time.

The Ministry also expressed condolences to the Morris family, as the fire claimed the lives of Kemba Morris and her eight-year old daughter Zaya.

Officers attached to the National Family Services Division as well as the National Social Development Programme have already made contact with the family and an official home visit by a team of Officers is carded for Thursday.

Through the Family Services Division, emergency food support will be provided to the family as well as information on the grant offerings available to them during this difficult period.

Among these include rental assistance grant for a period of three months, with renewal for up to nine months; clothing Grant – each member of the household can receive $1,000.00; school supplies for Children – Primary School Level – $700.00 and Secondary School Level – $1,000.

Household Items – to replace appliances, amounting to $10,000.00 in total; minor House Repair and Sanitary Plumbing assistance; and Assistance through the Funeral Grant once necessary; as well as any other assistance related to acquiring documents for the funeral arrangements
