Soca Warriors qualifies for 2021 Gold Cup group stage

The Soca Warriors is on their way to the Concacaf Gold Cup.

Trinidad and Tobago punched their ticket to the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup group stage thanks to a dramatic 8-7 penalty shootout win over French Guiana following a 1-1 draw in the Second Round of the 2021 Gold Cup Prelims on Tuesday at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

A winning goal could not be found, so the teams had to settle matters in a penalty shootout.

The first seven kicks were perfect but the hero of the game, Nicklas Frenderup came up big to stop French Guiana in their tracks with a low, diving save to his left to deny another goal. Halftime substitute Curtis ‘Boyo’Gonzales then stepped up and slotted home as calmly as you like and just like that, T&T has cashed in on $100,000 USD!

On Saturday the Warriors will face off against Mexico on Saturday afternoon in game one from 10pm at the AT&T Stadium in Texas. T&T will also play El Salvador and Curaçao on the 14th and 18th, respectively.

The top two teams in each group qualifies for the knockout stage.
