Rowley and Deyalsingh to be vaccinated on Tuesday

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh and Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley will be vaccinated on Tuesday when the vaccination programme is set to begin.

Deyalsingh made the revelation yesterday and said his Parliamentary colleagues, including the Opposition and those in the Upper House, will have to wait until a second tranche of vaccines is delivered.

On the concerns raised about the AstraZeneca vaccine and it being linked to blood clots in some patients in Europe, Deyalsingh said “You may remember there was some cases of blood clots in the elderly in Europe that temporarily halted their project, we said we would look at the data, the data came back and said there was no link but we always monitor these things to make sure our policies are in line with scientific evidence.”

Dr Erica Wheeler, PAHO and WHO country representative, said “The position of WHO is that countries should continue to vaccinate their populations because the evidence so far does not show that there is any clinical link or any death related to the current vaccines”.
