Reported gang leader’s sister escapes assassination attempt, boyfriend wounded

A reported gang leader’s sister escaped an assassination attempt, while her boyfriend was wounded during the incident.

Hours after groups of gunmen were shooting at each other in Belmont, a Barataria man was shot while sitting in a blue Hyundai Elantra in downtown Port-of-Spain.

The incident which took place on on Monday night was allegedly expected to happen to the Barataria man’s girlfriend who was also in the car.

According to ADD NEWS TT Police officers said the girlfriend is the sister of a well-known gang leader in the Port-of-Spain Division.

Preliminary facts compiled by first responders, state that the 34-year-old Barataria man was sitting in the driver’s seat of the car while the girlfriend was in the passenger seat, at the intersection of South Quay, Port of Spain in the vicinity of Maraj Jewellers when a black Nissan X-Trail (licence plate number unknown) drove near them.

A man inside the X-Trail shot at the couple, wounding the man while the girlfriend got out of the car and ran away.

The wounded man tried to drive his car to escape his attackers but crashed into concrete traffic barriers on the western side of the road near the PTSC compound as the gunmen escape.

He is in critical but stable condition.
Eight spent nine-millimetre rounds were found.
