Police Anti-crime exercise over the weekend

Police operations result in arrests, recovery of illegal firearms, ammunition, drugs, and seizure of cash.

Two firearms and a quantity of ammunition were recovered and three men were arrested yesterday, following anti-crimes exercises in several divisions.

Port- of Spain Task Force (POSTF)

Based on information received, officers proceeded to a bakery on Charlotte Street where the officers executed a warrant on a man for the offense of larceny from a person.

As the exercise continued the officers received information of suspicious persons in the Duncan Street Planning area. The officers proceeded to the location and conducted a search of the building. where they found 30 rounds of 5.56 millimetre ammunition in the rooftop of the building.

Central Division Task Force (CDTF)

At 10 pm on Saturday officers of the Central Division Task Force responded to a report of a robbery at a gas station in Chase Village. Upon arrival, they observed two men, one armed with a firearm and the other with a black bag running from the gas station. The men upon seeing the police vehicle fired several shots in their direction.

In keeping with the use of Force Policy, an officer returned fire and the men ran along Roberts Street escaping. An extensive search was conducted for the suspects, but it proved futile. As the investigations continued, a quantity of cash, cigarettes, and a nine-millimetre pistol were found at the entrance of the gas station.

Also in the Central Division, officers of the Criminal Investigation Department executed a search warrant at a home in Cunupia, where two men, ages 18 and 24 were arrested. As the officers intensified their operations, another warrant was executed at a home in Lee Trace Cunupia, where a quantity of marijuana was found and seized.

The exercise took the officers to an empty lot along Madras Road Extension, Chin Chin where a search was conducted and one plastic bag containing a bulletproof vest and 24 rounds of assorted ammunition were found and seized.

Tobago Division

Around 1:15pm on Saturday 17th December 2022 officers of the Tobago Divisional Task Force intercepted a blue Mitsubishi Lancer, vehicle along Windward Road, Betsy’s Hope. A search was conducted of the vehicle in the presence of the driver and the front-seat passenger. During the search one Taurus .40 caliber pistol and a magazine containing ammunition were found in the vehicle. Both men were arrested. The firearm and ammunition were seized.

Investigations are continuing.
