Point Lisas Desalination Plant shutdown on hold

The Water and Sewage Authority has announced there is a hold on the planned maintenance shutdown at the Desalination plant.

A press release sent by the Authority stated that the planned maintenance shutdown by the Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago (DESALCOTT), that was scheduled to begin on Sunday, was postponed temporarily in light of the impact of the adverse weather on several facilities of the Water and Sewerage Authority.

It noted that DESALCOTT, agreed to engage in discussions with the Authority and fully assess the impact of prolonged, adverse weather conditions on the national water supply grid, also taking into consideration, DESALCOTT’s own need for its annual, planned maintenance shutdown.

The Authority will provide further updates in a subsequent release.

The Minister of Public Utilities Marvin Gonzalves also sent a press release signaling his disapproval of the planned shutdown.
