Audit Reveals 70,000 Rounds Of Ammo Bought By SSA Unaccounted For

Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, says the Strategic Services Agency carried out the procurement of military weapons before the matter was officially approved by Cabinet.

He revealed around 70,000 rounds of ammunition are still unaccounted for.

The matter is being investigated by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.

The findings are based on the results of an audit into the operations of the Strategic Services Agency.

It was disclosed in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

It was also revealed the audit discovered that a former SSA director “initiated the procurement of high-grade, military, bolt-action rifles, complete with the most modern silencers and other accessories. The SSA was engaged in training specially selected, questionably hired personnel in the skill and use of such weapons”.

Dr Rowley said some action has been taken to address the situation.
