T&T’s Imani Matthew strikes gold at Carifta Games

Track and Field athlete, Imani Matthew won Trinidad and Tobago’s first 2023 Carifta gold medal.

The 2023 50th Carifta Games is currently being held at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas.

Immani Matthew of the Kaizen Panthers athletic club in Tobago won gold in the Boys Under 17 Long Jump with a leap of 7.13m.

Immani took the lead from his first jump.

The Tobagonian was the only athlete to surpass seven metres.

TTO on Saturday tallied one gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Team TTO earned their first medal, from Point Fortin New Jets’ Dorian Charles.

Charles, 18, bagged silver in the boys’ U20 javelin as he launched the spear 61.58 metres.

Meanwhile the host nation athlete, Kaden Cartwright won with his 64.07m effort.

Grenadian Cameron Thomas came in third with 60.12m while TT’s Le Bron James placed fourth with 58.70m.
