Confidentiality Cited As Critical By An Independent Senator For Success Of Whistleblowing Protection Bill

Confidentiality and securing of documents or files submitted relating to Whistleblowing are cited by Independent Senator, Dr Maria Dillon Remy, as one of the factors which is critical for the success of the Whistleblowing Protection Bill, 2022.

Dr Remy is of the view there must be close scrutiny of the persons who will be eventually chosen as Whistleblowing Officers in the various units which will be set up in this regard.

She said this approach must be adopted especially because of the seriousness of the portfolio and the responsibilities involved.

Dr Remy also noted the securing of documents passed on in this area is vital and all should be done to avoid possible leakage.
