Pedestrian dies in early morning accident

An early morning accident along Uriah Butler Highway has claimed the life of a pedestrian.

The incident occurred around 4:30am, while the man was attempting to cross the highway near Chaguanas.

A 34-year-old electrical technician of Fyzabad told police that he was driving a black Nissan Frontier along the North bound lane of the Highway, when upon reaching the section near Unit Trust Cooperation, he saw a man crossing the road from the eastern side.

The driver said he attempted to pull away, but his van struck the pedestrian, who died at the scene.

Investigations are underway.
