One man arrested, firearm and quantity of ammo seized

Ongoing Securing Our Carnival Activities (SOCA) operations in the Northern Division, has resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the seizure of a firearm, two magazines and a quantity of ammunition.

The operation was conducted in the St. Joseph district between 6 pm on Sunday 19th February, 2023 and 2 am, today, Monday 20th February, 2023.

It was spearheaded by ACP Mystar, Snr. Supt. Ramphall, Supt. Etienne, ASP Ramharack and Insp. Highly and included officers of the St. Joseph Criminal Investigations Department.

During the exercise, officers proceeded to Wellington Street, around 11:05 pm yesterday and arrested a 19-year-old suspect of the area.

A search resulted in the discovery of one Glock pistol, two magazines and 43 rounds of 9mm ammunition in his possession.

Investigations are ongoing into the finds.

This is the second firearm seized in the Northern Division in the past 24 hours as a result of the diligent work of officers conducting SOCA exercises.

During a similar exercise yesterday morning, officers, acting on information, seized a revolver in the St. Augustine district.
