ODPM Volunteer Programme kicks off to a good start

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management says following a robust and successful screening process the first group of applicants for the ODPM’s Volunteer Programme recently commenced their orientation training.

ODPM says the volunteers underwent themorning and afternoon sessions at the National Security Training Academy, Cumuto, Wallerfield.

In a media release the ODPM says the participants were treated to presentations on the critical role of the ODPM in national disaster management; the realities of hazard impacts in various communities; overview of the volunteer programme and its operations; as well as a synopsis of Communications, External Affairs and Administration in volunteerism.

The ODPM says through volunteering, the trainees learned they can increase their capacity to communicate and bring comfort to those most vulnerable in communities, through exposure to sign language and foreign languages.

Following the orientation session, some of the trainees expressed excitement to embark on the next stage that would qualify them to become full-fledged ODPM volunteers.
