No Early Christmas for Thief Caught With Stolen TV and Groceries

A suspected thief was caught by alert officers of the Southern Division last night, as he attempted to make his getaway with a quantity of items allegedly stolen from a Princes Town business place.
Reports indicate that officers of the Princes Town Police Station, acting in accordance with the Active Directed Grid Patrol Policy, were on mobile patrol along the Naparima Mayaro Road, in the St. Julien Village district, around 11:30 pm, on Saturday 5th November, 2022, when they observed two men standing on the roadway.
When the officers approached the suspects, one of them dropped a knapsack he had in his possession and they both attempted to flee into some nearby bushes.
One suspect was held a short distance away while the other escaped. A search of the knapsack revealed it contained a quantity of grocery items. A check of the immediate surroundings resulted in officers also finding a flat screen television and a quantity of electronic items.
Investigations revealed that the items were stolen from a nearby business place.
The suspect was arrested in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, in the North Eastern Division, Task Force officers conducted an exercise in the San Juan district between 5 am and 8 am, yesterday.
During the exercise officers stopped and searched a 28-year-old man of Cunupia, which resulted in one revolver and one round of ammunition being found in his possession.
The suspect was arrested in connection with the find.
This seizure brings to three, the number of firearms taken off the streets this weekend.
Investigations into both matters are ongoing.
