NAPSPA: It’s a challenge helping students failing in the primary school system!

The primary school system has been trying to work with and assist children who have had issues dealing with the work load, however it is a challenge.

This is according to the President of the National Primary School Principals Association Carlene Hayes.

She made the comments in response to recent comments by the Prime Minister linking criminality and the education system.

Speaking at the Breakfast with Dr Keith Rowley at the Hilton Trinidad on Wednesday, the PM blamed automatic promotion to secondary school for thrusting unprepared students into a system where they cannot cope with the curriculum.

He added that this inevitably leads to some becoming disinterested in education and instead turning to a life of crime.

He said that it was a problem that started within the primary school system.

Hayes believes that there have been increasing problems with numeracy and literacy especially coming out of the Covid pandemic.

She told News Power Now this morning that the burgeoning problem has been a feature throughout the primary school system.

She articulated that there isn’t enough help within the system to help students who are struggling either in primary or secondary school.

However she explained that there are some steps being taken to treat with the situation.
