Met Office Monitoring Weather Sytem East Of Windward Islands

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service is monitoring an area of disturbance east of the Windward Islands.

At 2:00 pm today, the area of active weather was located a few hundred km east of the Windward islands.

The National Hurricane Center has given the system a 20% chance of developing into a Tropical Cyclone over the next 48hours and a 20 % chance of development through 7 days.

Although this system has not become any better organized since yesterday, some slow development remains possible during the next couple of days while it moves westward across the tropical Atlantic and into the eastern Caribbean Sea.

Regardless of development, locally heavy rains and gusty winds are possible across portions of the Lesser Antilles during the next day or two.

Environmental conditions are expected to become unfavorable for development of this system by the middle of the week.

The initial outlook for Trinidad and Tobago is for cloudy periods with showers and the medium chance for thunderstorms over some areas, between Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

There are currently no alerts, watches, or warnings in effect for Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada and its Depedendcies.

The TTMS continues to monitor this area of low pressure and will issue an update at 9:00 am tomorrow (25th July 2023) or earlier if the situation warrants.
