A mentally ill man was shot by police in Barrackpore on Tuesday 7th May, 2024.
According to reports, officers were on enquiries in the district around 12:20pm, when upon reaching the #2 Scale, New Colonial Road, they saw a man armed with a cutlass, throwing bricks at vehicles.
The officers attempted to speak to the man who instead lunged towards them with the cutlass.
One of the officers subsequently pulled out his licensed firearm and shot the man before taking him to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was treated and listed in critical condition.
