Man killed in early morning shooting near Water Taxi Terminal in POS

An early morning murder in Port of Spain is currently engaging the attention of police.

Reports state that 47-year-old Wendell Walker alias ‘Jamal and Jango’ of Paradise Heights, Morvant was driving his grey Mercedes Benz on the eastbound lane of the Audrey Jeffers Highway, near the Water Taxi Terminal around 1.10 am when a grey Mazda 6 drove in front of his car blocking him.

Two gunmen got out of the Mazda and shot Walker several times.

Officers of the St Clair police station received a report of gunshots and took Walker to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was declared dead.

Officers of the Port-of-Spain Division and crime scene investigators visited the scene and found 15 spent 9 mm shells and 18 spent 5.56 shells.

Walker, police say, was known to them, and was facing a string of charges including robbery and gun related charges.

Police from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region I are continuing enquiries.
