Police tried to stop a man from taking his own life in Valencia on Friday nigh.
However, the man later succumbed to his self inflicted wounds.
Reports said that around 8.20 pm, Joshua Warren was standing on the road opposite the Valencia Police Post when officers nearby observed him take a broken bottle and began injuring himself.
The officers quickly approached him and made attempts to take the broken glass bottle from his hand.
They managed to restrain Warren and then transport him to the Arima Health Facility for treatment.
However, he was pronounced dead whilst undergoing treatment at the health facility around 10.45 pm.
Two officers sustained minor injuries from the struggle to subdue him and they were treated at the Sangre Grande Hospital and later discharged.
