An accident along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway in Arima, early on Sunday morning claimed the life of a 25-year-old Maloney man and injured a 23-year-old woman.
Around 4:15am, Kobe Christian La Borde was driving his blue Toyota Corolla NZE on the eastbound lane of the Highway near National Canners Limited, Arima, when the car reportedly veered off the road and crashed into the median.
The car then collided with a tree stump on the median causing the car to turn several times before eventually stopping on the west-bound lane, over 100 feet away.
La Borde died at the scene but a 23-year-old woman who was in the car at the time was taken to hospital by a relative who was travelling nearby.
She is said to be in a stable condition.
