Machine gun and several stolen devices seized by police in Laventille

A police exercise in Laventille on Wednesday morning led to the seizure of a machine gun and several devices believed to have been stolen.

Police said officers of the Port-of-Spain Task Force began an exercise around 10 am and ended it at around midday, where they searched several houses in Sogren Trace, Laventille.

As the officers approached a house belonging to a known offender, they saw a man running through the back door through bushes.

On searching the house the officers found a Draco machine gun with 21 rounds of 7.62 ammunition together with several cell phones, tablets and a laptop.

The exercise was co-ordinated by ACP Maharaj and led by Snr Supt Mohammed, Supt Etienne, ASP Walker and Bacchus with support from Insp Khan, Sgt Alexander, Cpls Sookhoo, Yearwood, PCs Abdul-Latif, Nunes, Sayers, Paul, Felix, Remy, Kamchan, Dabreau, Alexander and Clarke.
