King Charles to have a second coronation

It’s been less than a month since King Charles practically shut down the entire U.K. for his coronation festivities. And now, the 74-year-old monarch is preparing for round two. (And no, we’re not kidding.)

According to Hello! magazine, King Charles and his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, will be crowned in a second coronation ceremony in Scotland, dubbed the Service of Dedication and Thanksgiving. They will be presented with the Honours of Scotland (AKA the Scottish Crown Jewels), which are traditionally worn by monarchs during coronation.

In addition to the service, the king will carry out several engagements during his time in Scotland. The monarch will host a garden party at Edinburgh on July 4, followed by an investiture ceremony.

The royal family hasn’t confirmed a specific date for the Service of Dedication and Thanksgiving. However, as Hello! magazine points out, the castle’s upcoming closures offer some insight into what’s to come. For example, the Crown Room at Edinburgh Castle will be closed from July 4 to July 6. And the entire castle will be closed on July 5, so it seems highly likely that a major event will take place on that date.

The first coronation took place on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London. There were quite a few memorable moments that stood out to us, from Prince Louis’s meme-worthy faces to Prince George’s history-making role.
