Gadsby-Dolly: Migrant children accepted in schools only where teachers have received training

Migrant children will be accepted in schools where the teachers have already received training in this area.

This will be done once the legislation is finalised.

Minister of Education, Dr Nyan Gadsby Dolly, provided the information during deliberations on the Standing Finance Committee on Tuesday.

The topic came up after Member of Parliament for Tabaquite, Anita Haynes, wanted to know how government will facilitate the announcement.

Dr Gadsby Dolly said in 2019 there was a partnership between the Education Ministry, the Catholic Education Board, and Living Waters Community and they selected some schools where training of their teachers in this aspect was conducted.

She said there are also systems in place to train more teachers in this aspect if there is need to do so.
