Kamla Persad Bissessar urges parents to vaccinate their children

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is urging parents to vaccinate their children, telling them: “to just do it.”

At the UNC’s Monday night forum, Mrs Persad Bissessar referred to the recent FDA full approval of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine.

“Please, do take them…FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) has now pronounced the Pfizer not as an emergency vaccine but has been given full approval”.

According to the Ministry of health, as of Monday, 15,352 or just over 12% of eligible children between the ages of 12 and 18 had received their first shot of the Pfizer vaccine. The government is hoping that at least 60-70% of 12-18 year old school students will be vaccinated in time for the projected September 06th resumption of some face to face classes.

The Ministry of education has identified approximately 91,000 private and public secondary school pupils who fall within the 12 to 18 age group, and are eligible for the vaccine.
