Kamla extends greetings for Eid-al-Adha; says citizens need to unite to overcome obstacles

Opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said unity is needed now more than ever in our beloved and she has issued a call for all citizens to come together to rebuild the nation with love.

In her message to the nation, on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, she said we as citizens need to work to overcome the obstacles facing the country.

The Opposition leader said: “Unity is needed now, more than ever in our beloved nation, as we deal with the challenges confronting us.

Our citizens are facing hardships such as joblessness, high food prices and high cost of living. Across the country, rising crime continues to cause anxiety and fear, and many feel a sense of hopelessness.”

Persad-Bissessar urged citizens to take the opportunity to reflect on the tenets of Islam of faith, compassion, empathy, and selflessness towards others.

“Today, let us reaffirm our commitment to rebuilding our fragmented nation. Let us glue together the broken fragments that our beloved country has been splintered into and let us do it with love,” she said.

Persad-Bissessar added that the occasion is one that serves as a reminder for people to deepen their belief in God and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood.
