June date set for UNC internal election

June 15th, 2024 has been set as the for the much talked about United National Congress internal elections.

Notification of the party’s National Executive (NATEX) election was issued late on Friday night by UNC’s General Secretary Peter Kanhai and posted on the UNC’s social media pages.

It stated that the UNC will be accepting nominations for the NATEX elections and nomination papers will be available from the party’s Chaguanas Headquarters, Mulchan Seuchan Road from May 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The announcement came on the heels of notice from the Office of the Prime Minister that by-elections for two electoral districts- Lengua/ Indian Walk and Quinam/Morne Diablo will be held on June 17.

The UNC internal elections comes in keeping with the party’s Constitution as the term of this current NATEX is due to expire on June 26.

All NATEX positions will be contested except the post of political leader, which is due at a late date.

This means Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar will remain as UNC Leader with a newly elected NATEX team.
