Judoka Gabriella Wood is defeated in women’s +78kg category

Trinidad and Tobago’s 23-year-old judoka, Gabriella Wood, failed to make it past her Belarusian opponent on Thursday night, in her debut appearance at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Wood, the first TT woman to compete in the sport of judo at the Olympic Games, fought in the women’s +78kg category against Maryna Slutskaya of Belarus in the seventh fight.

However, Slutskaya was a very tough opponent for Wood, who is based in Scotland under coach Lee Calder.
Wood was pinned just 53 seconds into the first round.
