Judiciary warns of jail time for non payment of traffic and face mask tickets

People who were ticketed for not wearing masks during the Covid pandemic, could face jail time if the money is not paid.

The warning comes from the The Judiciary.

In a statement today, the Judiciary said the the deadline for the payment of the following has been extended to November 30, 2023.

1. Traffic Tickets issued before May 26, 2020 and

2. Public Health Fixed Penalty Notices and Safe Zone penalties (mask fines) issued during the period March 16, 2020, to September 30, 2023.

“Please pay these before the deadline date of November 30, 2023 to avoid further penalties. Failure to pay your Public Health Fixed Penalty (Mask Fines) may result in a warrant for your arrest, a TTD $5,000.00 fine and three days imprisonment” the Judiciary stated.

The Judiciary advised people that to pay, they could visit https://courtpay.ttlawcourts.org and register your payment using either

a) a credit card,

b) a visa-enabled debit card or

c) a Court Pay Fines and Fees Voucher purchased from any NLCB Lotto Booth.

If you are using a CourtPay voucher to make your payment online, your payment is only final when the voucher is applied to the fine or fee on the CourtPay website.
