JTUM Urges Gov’t To Reverse Its Decision On Six Month Ban Placed On Scrap Iron Industry

The Joint Trade Union Movement is calling on the government to reverse its decision to close down the scrap iron industry for the next six months.

The government claims the move is necessary in order to regulate the sector and put in place updated legislation relating to its operations.

Concerns have been raised about increasing incidents of copper and cable theft and so far over 218 persons have been arrested in connection with the development.

Speaking at a news briefing held at OWTU’s Head Office, Paramount Building, San Fernando Monday, President of JTUM, Ancil Roget, urged the government to revisit its stance.

Mr Roget warns the public can expect some level of resistance but within the law.
