JSC to hold virtual session today on surprise SSA changes

A request by Opposition members to discuss the decision to replace the head of the Strategic Services Agency at a Parliamentary Joint Select Committee will be considered during a virtual session today.

The request was made by Opposition members Dr Roodal Moonilal and Jayanti Lutchmedial.

Both wrote to JSC chairman Keith Scotland on Tuesday requesting that the committee be convened as they stated they were “shocked and alarmed” over the move by the National Security Council to send SSA director, retired major Roger Best, on administrative leave and appoint former ambassador Anthony Phillips-Spencer to act in his place.

The letter requested that National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds and former national security minister Stuart Young be called before the committee.

Scotland responded to both Moonilal and Lutchmedial on March 6th, 2024, stating that the determination of witnesses to appear before the committee was a matter to be considered by the committee.

Scotland stated that he directed the secretariat to circulate the Opposition’s correspondence to all members. He proposed to have their request urgently discussed at the next meeting, which will take place today at 9.30 a.m. and will be held virtually.

Moonilal said he hoped the committee would accede to their request.
