JSC Meeting Hears Call For Greater Utilisation Of Export Centres

A call is being made for greater use of the various export centres across Trinidad and Tobago.

The appeal comes from Chairman of Export Centres Company Limited, Roger Roach.

Mr Roach gave the update at a Joint Select Committee Meeting on State Enterprises on Monday.

The JSC inquired into the operations of the ECCL including a focus on achievement of its mandate to build the capacity of artisans in the craft sector towards lower self-sufficiency.

The centres are located at Palo Seco, Point Fortin, La Brea, Morvant, Fyzabad, Mausica, Piarco, Bon Air and Tunapuna.

Mr Roach said the current centres are underutilised.

However, responding to JSC Member, Rudy Indarsingh, he added that opening new centres is not on the agenda at this time.

Mr Roach said this is not the direction on the agenda at time but ensuring maximum use of existing facilities.
