Huge debate over the government’s extension of emergency provisions in Jamaica

Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, announced a State of Public Emergency for the South St. Andrew division on Sunday July 7.

Speaking at a press conference at Jamaica House, Chief of Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force, Lieutenant General Rocky said St Andrew South recorded the highest number of murders since the start of the year with 94 cases.

The figure he said was 15 more than the 79 murders recorded for the corresponding period last year.

IzzSo media spoke with reporter, Stephanie Lyew of The Jamaica Star this morning who said that there has been public outcry by party promoters and business owners over the extension of the SOE.
