Fifty thousand vaccinations in five weeks.
That’s the new number that could get Barbadians an ease in curfews and restrictions, back to a sense of normalcy in a COVID-19 world and even closer to herd immunity.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley said she is counting on increased vaccination numbers in Barbados over the next month to determine how and when the current state of emergency will be reviewed and restrictions possibly lifted or pegged back soon.
If things go as she would like, it could mean a return to a time without curfews before Christmas, she suggested yesterday during an address to the nation.
The Government leader is convinced that if 50 000 Barbadians could be inoculated in the next five weeks, Barbados would be nearer to the intended finish line, that of herd immunity, even as public health authorities continue to battle a deadly Delta variant that has led to the loss of six lives in the last week.
