HDC evicts tenants at Vieux Fort development in St James

The Housing Development Corporation, (HDC) has evicted tenants from three units at the Vieux Fort Housing Development in St James for non-payment of their monthly installments.

The exercise was carried out yesterday.

The HDC says the tenants were warned about the eviction on April 19th, during which time they were encouraged to make payments to their accounts.

It says arrears letters were also sent out in October 2023 advising outstanding debts, while Notices to Quit were issued in November 2023 to registered tenants who were in breach of their respective agreements.

According to the HDC, residents had until December 2023 to respond to the notices.

In March 2024, those persons who failed to do so were served with NTQs to vacate the units on or before March 31st 2024.

As at April 23rd 2024, it says 39 persons failed to respond to any of the dispatched correspondence, including those occupying the three units that have been evicted.

The HDC’s Debt-collection Drive is ongoing and will continue in several housing developments across the country including:

-Chaconia Crescent Housing Development, Diego Martin

-Cypress Hills Housing Development, Union Hall, San Fernando

-Hilltop Villas Housing Development, Malick

-Real Spring Housing Development, Valsayn
