Government Is Urged To Include Technical And Energy Experts In Future Negotiations

The Opposition says it would like government to succeed in the Trinidad and Tobago/Venezuelan Dragon gas deal.

However, it is suggesting that, in future negotiations, more technical and energy experts should be included in the deliberations.

Member of Parliament for Naparima, Rodney Charles, said the experts will be guided by cabinet policies which help ensure accountability and transparency.

This country has been granted a waiver by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control to explore the Dragon natural gas field in Venezuela.

In 2018 the deal was signed between TT and Venezuela and involves energy giant Shell, Venezuela’s state oil company PDVSA, and TT’s National Gas Company.

Speaking at a news briefing on Thursday, MP Charles cited the benefits of having negotiations on energy matters be done with a wider team besides the Prime Minister and Energy Minister.
