GloRilla has decided to celebrate “Leo season” by paying homage to Lil Kim with a photoshoot that mimics the very pose she did during her superstar run in the 1990s.
On Monday (July 17), the CMG artist took to Instagram and set things on fire as she hit Queen Bee’s iconic bikini-clad squat pose while rocking a shiny silver bathing suit and jacket. She also included two other pictures that showed off her tattooed figure.
“If I didn’t have a deal I’d still be worth some mills [money bag emoji] LEO SEASON APPROACHING………. [lion head emoji],” she wrote in the caption.
While there was spirited banter in the comments section, GloRilla won Lil Kim’s approval as the female rap pioneer left a smiling cat with heart-eyes emoji, along with a fire emoji and heart emoji.
Lil Kim first did the pose in 1996 for her debut album Hard Core. The cover art itself showed her striking a provocative pose on top of a polar bear rug while wearing sexy lingerie.
Since then, many female rappers have followed suit in borrowing inspiration from the Brooklyn native including Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and even newcomers such as Coi Leray, and DreamDoll.
In May, Benzino’s daughter recreated Kim’s famous pose on the cover of her sophomore album COI. “Introducing my second album COI dropping June 23rd,” she wrote on Twitter when first unveiling it to the world.
As for DreamDoll, during Hot 97’s Summer Jam in 2022, she wore a revealing one-sleeved jumpsuit and nipple cover, similar to the outfit that Lil Kim wore to the 1999 MTV Music Awards.
Lately, GloRilla has been in a mood to show off her sexy side as she also recently channeled her inner Beyoncé in response to fans who encouraged her to work on her stage presence — and more importantly, her sex appeal.
Glo took to Instagram earlier this month where she explained she “love constructive criticism” — much of which she received after her performance at the 2023 BET Awards.
“Ya’ll hungry? Because I want to show ya’ll something. Ya’ll told me I need to work on my sex appeal. Ya’ll said I ain’t got none. Ya’ll said I need to be more feminine. So, here goes nothing. I’m bout to channel my inner Beyoncé — Sasha Fierce,” she said before moving her hips to “Beautiful Liar” by Bey featuring Shakira.
