El Salvador beat T&T 2-0, in Gold Cup quarterfinal

El Salvador defeats Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors to advance to the quarterfinal of the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup.

The quarterfinal match took place at the Toyota Stadium in Dallas.

T&T was off to a frustrating start after losing a quality left back in Triston Hodge when he collided with an El Salvador rival.

Hodge was replaced by Andre Fortune II in the 15th minute.

T&T later found themselves a goal behind in the 30th minute.

Head coach Angus Eve replaced Duane Muckette and Jelani Peters with Marcus Joseph and Reon Moore respectively in the 2nd half.

The two subs immediately injected some life into the attack.

In the 90th minute, El Salvador sealed the deal after goalkeeper Nicklas Frenderup was left for dead by his defenders while he battled three attackers who eventually won an easy tap in.

With one spot remaining, the Soca Warriors’ chance of qualifying is still possible depending on a lot on the combination of the scores of the other games in the Group along with a win on Sunday against Guatemala.
