Economist Valmiki Arjoon says the Heritage and Stabilisation fund should be split into two parts.
He made the suggestion while speaking on Power 102 Digital’s Power Breakfast Show this morning.
Dr Arjoon noted that while the Government has successfully used the fund to stabilise the country throughout COVID for example, there must be part of the fund that is kept for subsequent generations.
His comment comes amid reports that the fund lost near to US 1 billion dollars in the last year.
Dr Arjoon also noted that improper management of the fund can impact on the Government’s ability to stabilise the country in the event of a significant shortfall in budgetary income.
Therefore proper management of the fund is essential to the country’s stability during hard times.
