Driving Rage, Prevalence Of Guns Creating Volatile Crime Situation In T&T, Says One Criminologist

There is a feeding, driving rage that seems to be prevailing in society today, paired with the prevalence of guns it creates a volatile situation which is contributing to the burgeoning crime situation in Trinidad and Tobago.

This is according Criminologist Darius Figuera who spoke on the Power Breakfast Show on Power 102 Digital this morning.

The TTPS has been kept busy with incidents of violent crime as the death toll continues to rise.

Five men were killed in separate shootings in Port-of-Spain, San Juan and Arima between 8.30 pm on Monday and 8 am yesterday.

Figuera noted that there is a feeling by persons that they are entitled to what they desire and these are the persons who are willing to grab hold of it by any means necessary.

He said added to this, the legal system in T&T is bursting at the seams.

He also referred to a change in the business model in the illicit trade and a new order.

He said the old order that has been pushed out is now fighting for survival.

However he said all of the realities in the illicit world would not have the same impact on society if T&T was not enveloped with rage.

This he maintains continues to have a affect the crime situation in Trinidad and Tobago.
