Development Bank of Latin America donates $1.36M in disaster relief to T&T

The Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) has offered to donate US$200,000 (TT$1.36 million) to Trinidad and Tobago.

In a release on the Ministry of Finance’s social media page, it said this was a “demonstration of unwavering solidarity with the people of Trinidad and Tobago” who were facing significant damage and loss due to the effects of floods and landslides.

The offer of humanitarian support came on November 29, 2022, from the President of CAF Sergio Diaz-Granados G, who recently visited Trinidad and Tobago to launch the opening of CAF-Development Bank of Latin America’s regional hub which will be located here.

This is not the first act of solidarity from CAF.

In October 2018 humanitarian assistance in the similar sum of US$200,000 (TT$1.36 million) was readily given by CAF for flood relief. There was also another generous donation from CAF of US$400,000 (TT$2.72 million) in April 2020 in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. CAF has also indicated its readiness to offer financing for rehabilitation or reconstruction of damaged infrastructure.
