Dave Chappelle announces new Netflix stand-up special

Dave Chappelle is returning to Netflix with a new stand-up special that will debut on New Year’s Eve.

The streaming giant released a teaser trailer on Wednesday with Morgan Freeman’s voice announcing, “He’s back, folks.”

The teaser was captioned, “DAVE IS BACK ONLY ON NETFLIX DEC. 31.” Watch the short clip via the X/Twitter post below.

Chappelle’s last Netflix stand-up, “The Closer,” was heavily criticized for being transphobic, and prompted queer people to protest against the company.

Most recently, the comedian addressed reports that he angered fans during a show in Boston last month when he slammed the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

“Right now, I’m in trouble because the Jewish community is upset,” Chappelle said at his North Carolina show, according to the New York Times. “But I cannot express this enough: No matter what you read about that show in Boston, you will never see quotation marks around anything I said. They don’t know what I said.”

Chappelle noted that it was all “hearsay,” the Times reported.

Page Six reported that several attendees walked out of the show held at TD Garden in Boston. According to the Wall Street Journal, Chappelle called out Israel’s “war crimes” and accused the Israeli government of killing innocent civilians with the aid of the U.S. government.

One heckler allegedly told Chappelle to “shut up” when he said students should not be denied jobs because they support Palestine.

When a woman in the audience shouted, “Free Palestine,” Chappelle said, “Please, please, miss. Listen. Don’t start it up or I’m going to be in the news cycle for another week. This thing that’s happening in the Middle East is bigger than everybody.”

Chapelle called the situation between Israel and Palestine a “nightmare.”

“There’s only two kinds of people in the world: people who love other people and the people that have things to make them afraid to love other people. Pray for everyone in Israel. Pray for everyone in Palestine,” he said, the Times reported.
