Cumuto man shot and robbed of $100,000 after leaving bank

Mere moments after he withdrew $100,000 from a commercial bank in Trincity on Monday 26th June, a 44-year-old Cumuto man was shot and robbed.

The incident occurred around 3:30 pm, when the victim pulled up outside his brother-in-law’s Arouca home.

Reports state that as he was about to exit the vehicle, he was approached by two men, one armed with a gun who emerged from a black Honda City motor car licensed PDU 7019.

The suspects demanded that he hand over the money and one of the suspects threatened to shoot the victim.

The man was then shot in the leg and handed over a bag that contained $100,000 in cash.

On hearing the gunshot, a male relative, who is the holder of a licensed pistol, came to the man’s aid.

One of the suspects pointed a gun and the relative discharged several rounds of ammunition in the suspect’s direction.

However, the suspects escaped.

The injured man was taken to the hospital where he was treated.

Crime Scene Investigators found 14 spent 9mm shells, one live and one projectile at the scene.

Officers of the Arima Police Station subsequently found the car used in the robbery abandoned in Tacarigua. PC Lambert of the Arouca CID is probing the incident.
