Couva North MP Reflects On Life And Achievements Of The Black Stalin

Member of Parliament for Couva North, Ravi Ratiram, says the passing of Black Stalin has thrown not only the local entertainment fraternity into mourning, but has also touched the wider international community.

Stalin’s career in entertainment spanned for six decades, with his debut entry into a Calypso tent (The Southern Brigade) in 1962 and would be immortalized thereafter for hits such as “The Caribbean Man”, “Feeling to Party”, “We Can Make It” and “Better Days” amongst many others.

In 1987, Stalin was awarded the Hummingbird Medal (Silver) for his contribution to Trinidad & Tobago culture and in 2008 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of the West Indies for same.

In a media release on Wednesday, MP Ratirman joined with the national and international community in paying tribute to Dr. Leroy Calliste and expressed his heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones on his passing.
