Chairman of the Council for Responsible Political Behaviour, Dr Bishnu Ragoonath, says the group is closely monitoring election related activities to ensure there is adherence to the Code of Conduct.
Guidelines under the code include the prohibition against false or defamatory allegations in print or speech, in connection with an election in respect of a Party, its Candidates, representatives or members.
Individuals should also not engage in character assassination or make defamatory comments about any individual, family, professional group or section of the community.
In a News Power Now interview, Dr Ragoonath provided an update on the council’s work.
Dr Ragoonath said party supporters should also comply with the requirements outlined in the code.
