Cops investigating death of 2-month old baby

An investigation has reportedly been launched into the death of a 2-month-old baby.

A police report on the incident states that around 1 pm, the baby’s mother, Nicola Hercules of Point Fortin, fed the baby and later heard choking sounds.

She then checked on her child and discovered vomit around the mouth and the baby was unresponsive.

The EHS were contacted and they arrived within 10 minutes and attended to the baby who was taken to the hospital.

The baby was declared dead by doctors 20 minutes later and the police were notified. PC Bailey and Gomes of the Point Fortin Police Station responded and went to the hospital where they spoke with a doctor and Hercules.

Unconfirmed reports state that the doctor notified police that the baby appeared malnourished and the mother indicated the baby was not consuming the required amount of milk and the baby had a skin disease.

PC Gomes, the report added, observed a small graze on the baby’s right cheek. An autopsy was ordered to confirm the cause of death. PC Gomes is investigating the incident.
