CoP: Officers did their best to direct traffic during gridlock yeserday!

Police officers did their best to handle the gridlock traffic situation that occurred yesterday however there were mitigating circumstances that made their jobs difficult.

This is according to Acting Commissioner of Police McDonald Jacob.

A FLOODED section of the Uriah Butler Highway caused a traffic pile-up as far west as Cocorite and as far east as Trincity, as the weekend’s unusually heavy rainfall continued to leave citizens awash in despair.

So bad was the traffic that Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan instructed that the Priority Bus Route would be open to light vehicles from 6 p.m. from Port of Spain straight to Arima.

Speaking on Power 102 Digital’s Power Breakfast Show this morning Jacob said that officers did respond to the tenuous situation in real time.

However he stated that even alternative route used to direct traffic were obstructed.

He said a post mortem on what happened would be conducted to correct mistakes made yesterday.
