Children’s Authority praises citizens for bringing recent assault of minors to its attention

Children’s Authority CEO Sheldon Cyrus says the public must be commended for bringing a recent incident to the Authority’s attention.

A woman was arrested earlier this week following a viral social media video allegedly depicting the physical assault and mistreatment of two young children.

The children – ages 3 and 9 – were removed from the home and placed under the care of the Children’s Authority.

In a media release, Dr Cyrus notes that reports of abuse can be made to either the police at 999 or the Authority at 996.

He is also appealing to parents, caregivers and families to seek help if they are experiencing difficulties, through the following agencies:

• Social Development Ministry: 800-1673
• National Family Services Division: 623-2608 ext. 6701-6711
• T&T Association of Psychologists: 717-8827
• Student Support Services Division: 724-1010
• Childline: 131
