The Opposition Leader is calling for all to be done to guard against external interference in independent institutions such as the Police Service Commission.
Kamla Persad Bissessar made the appeal while speaking at a news briefing held Thursday as she reflected on a ruling by a judge in the Port of Spain High Court who declared the acting appointment of Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith and Deputy Commissioner of Police McDonald Jacob unconstitutional.
The Member of Parliament for Siparia claimed matters surrounding the process point to the independence of the PSC being encroached upon.
Mrs. Persad Bissessar cautioned this kind of situation can lead to serious implications for citizens and Trinidad and Tobago.
The Opposition Leader also raised several questions pertaining to the selection process for the appointment of a Commissioner of Police claiming possible misconduct in public office.
